Local History

British Association for Local History
Is the national charity which promotes local history and serves local historians. Publishes both The Local Historian, quarterly journal, and Local History News, a topical magazine. Publishes books and pamphlets on local history.

Cheshire History
Promoting the study of, and interest in, local history within the ancient County Palatine of Chester. It encourages Local History Societies by offering help and advice on how they may be run. It meets every three months at locations around the county and publishes the much respected journal "Cheshire History" in December each year. It organises the "Cheshire History Day" held on the last Saturday in October.

Family History Society of Cheshire
The Family History Society of Cheshire (FHSC) was founded in 1969 to advance the study of family history and genealogy, and now have around 3000 members worldwide. They have a Computer Club offering help to members with all levels of experience in family history and computing. Members may use their new Research Centre and library, while they also produce a large number of Publications relating to Cheshire family history, including marriage census indexes, monumental inscriptions and parish register transcripts. A quarterly Journal, the Cheshire Ancestor, includes articles of general geneaolgical interest, as well as articles relevent to Cheshire genealogy.

Historic Society of Lancashire & Cheshire
Membership of the Society is of tremendous value to anyone interested in the history of the counties of Lancashire and Cheshire. The Society has a distinguished past as one of the oldest county historical societies in Britain, and continues to promote understanding of diverse aspects of regional and local history in north-west England. Members enjoy the benefits of the annual Transactions of the Society, a programme of meetings and lectures, and the use of an extensive library. The scholarly standard of Transactions of the Historic Society of Lancashire and Cheshire is widely respected. This journal contains a range of articles reflecting recent research on the history of Lancashire and Cheshire. The articles and book reviews cover a range of themes and periods, and are of wide-ranging interest.

National Waterways Museum, Gloucester
The National Waterways Museum brings the story of the waterways to life for schools and Waterways students of all ages. Their education programmes link with English, Maths, Science, Technology, the Arts and, of course History.
